Description
NEIL DIAMOND..... The "rock and roll tycoon", from 1981. This is a truly rare item. It's from my personal collection (I had all the columbia, duel singles...but gave em to a former girlfriend a long time ago. ... and I STILL have the ultimate rarity... the DFD 45 from about 1961.... Nathanial B Jackson b/w You'll Never Be Anything But Mine. (it's a killer soul record, by the way! NO KIDDING!!! Never found another anywhere)
Ok ok... back to this amazing set. I begged for it in 1981,after it was aired, and because a personal friend was a program director at a local station, he pulled strings and got it for me from the competing station that aired this. (for a hefty trade, of course). I loved collecting the "promo only" items. I may still have some of the UNI and MCA shows too. But I just unearthed this one in my record room again, and thought I'd allow it a new home where it could be played and enjoyed.
I NEVER actually played this, so it was aired once, then repackaged in the ORIGINAL box it was mailed to the station in (included in this offering). This set includes: 3 albums, each one ONE HOUR in length... A "contract" from one of the DJ's spelling out that this is to be RETURNED, and not re-aired... 6 pages of "COMMERCIAL INSTRUCTIONS" to the station, which are essentially the "cue" sheets, listing each song, the running time, and the break segments so the DJ could know when to insert a commercial break (CLOWN TOWN is the first song played on this special, to give you an indication)...3 pages of a "Commercial Format Clock" actually spelling out WHEN to break for commercials and when to air the segment.... (The agency producing this special demanded total control over this airing!!!)...and four (4) glossy print ready advertisements with Neil's picture, to aid in publication of promotional spots in the print media.
The total playing time is 179:55 (which is 2 hours, 59 minutes and 55 seconds). The records are in lined white sleeves, as shipped to the station originally. All printed materials are in wonderfully preserved condition, with a few minor notations made to the working air personality about how and when to broadcast.
The three vinyl albums are in a nearly mint condition (remember, aired once, probably played no more than three times TOTAL... if that). The original mailer, if you want it, will be included. I'll have to wrap brown wrapping over it to ship it to you, which may add to the weight a little. So, the postage MIGHT reflect a slight additional weight if this goes outside of the USA. PLEASE write me before paying postage so I can verify that. I'm charging only actual postage, no surcharges.
This is a TRULY rare item, so please bid accordingly. I'm not placing a reserve, to be fair to everyone. But you should know that ONLY certain subscribing stations across the country GOT shows like this one, usually pressed in the 200 to 300 range. And they were contractually supposed to be returned or destroyed after being aired, making those 200 copies even RARER!!!!.
If this garners a fair bid, I might list a few other rare Neil Diamond items. ... Hmmm.. I've got a SEALED copy of THE FEEL OF NEIL that Neil personally gave to Mylon Lefevre back in the 60's. I got it from Mylon. Probably have a promo CLOWN TOWN I could part with, too. Any interest? I'll keep digging. I know I have some other obscure items.
Postage in the USA is $4, UK will be $12, and Japan will be $16. remember to pack this in it's original mailer will take extra wrapping. If I find that I can ship for less (priority mail) then I'll deduct it.
