NEIL DIAMOND "SEPTEMBER MORN" 2:58 (Edit) Timing...THE MASTERING LAB  MASTERING STUDIOS U.S.A....LACQUER, ACETATE, DUB PLATE. The released version of this song is much longer than this version and on the label written in purple it states "Edited (not using". This was a test cut for an edited DJ version of sorts.  Read about the speculation of the existence of this 2:58 DJ edit version at the discussion board regarding Neil Diamond's "September Morn" (most of the link is written below).

One comment on the board "...it does exist. Both the mono and stereo sides of the DJ 45 are timed correctly at (2:58). It features a totally different vocal take by Neil, the piano & orchestration on this mix are also noticably different than both the LP and the stock 45 versions. As you know, those two versions are largely similar; the major difference being the stock 45's removal of the LP's piano intro...."  Another comment..speculation.."Actually, I have a pretty good idea why. If you listen to the LP version, that particular line is in a spot where the song doesn't change key. Later in the song, when the key change occurs, there is no vocal. (This is the spot where the edit occurs.) In order to make the DJ edit sound correct, Neil had to resing that one line over top of the instrumental portion where the edit occurs."

This was intended as a 1-sided 10" Disc, however, a track (or most of) is also cut on the flip side (see the last photo in my listing). I quickly checked it on my turntable and it seems like it is most of the same track from the A side, but did not do a detailed comparison. 

This is an Ultra-rare 1-sided 10" with an additional test cut on the flip side. This was cut by the MASTERING Lab(U.S.A.) STUDIOS and is a  MASTERING ACETATE (see description below on acetates). The track is as follows:  "September Morn" (Edit) with timing as marked at 2:58. Only a few of these discs would have been produced.  This is in VG++ to Excellent condition with nice shiny surfaces. This is in the condition which I received this disc. A few light surface marks but nothing significant.  I am VERY particular (check my feedback) and this is not like many of the trashed acetates you see for sale that are dull in finish from having been played like a record over and over.  This is also guaranteed to be authentic and not one of the many "fakes" being produced in Texas and elsewhere and sold on Ebay these days.  I have stored this disc out of the light in a protective sleeve and in a smoke-free environment.  Each acetate which is produced is unique (see comments on acetates below). Don't miss out on this rare opportunity to obtain an amazing acetate.

Description excerpt below taken from the book "Rare Rock A Collectors Guide" by Tony Rees

"Acetates: Aluminum discs of various sizes (7, 10 or 12 inch) with a thin coating of shellac or vinyl.  These discs are not pressed like regular vinyl issues.  Instead, they are INDIVIDUALLY cut by the master cutter as a "pre" test pressing to give directions as to how the final cut should go.  As such, EACH acetate is unique, and acetates constitute some of the rarest items in the whole field of record collecting."

"Acetate/Lacquer Is usually a reference cut that is made on ultra high-grad methyl cellulose sprayed onto thick aluminum discs. Reference acetates are primarily to make certain the record will sound somewhat like the tape. Often they are also made to allow a club or radio disc-jockey to play the music on turntables before it has been pressed as a normal record. Acetate is a misnomer (but frequently used!). It is actually a Lacquer."
