ARTIST INFO:Single-album side project of The Damned where the band, using assumed names, covered classic 1960s garage rock songs.
The Damned are an English rock band formed in London, England in 1976 by lead vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Brian James, bassist (and later guitarist) Captain Sensible, and drummer Rat Scabies. They were the first punk rock band from the United Kingdom to release a single, "New Rose" (1976), release an album, Damned Damned Damned (1977), and tour the United States. They have nine singles that charted on the UK Singles Chart Top 40.
The band briefly broke up after Music for Pleasure (1977), the follow-up to their debut album, was critically dismissed. They quickly reformed without Brian James, and released Machine Gun Etiquette (1979).In the 1980s they released four studio albums, The Black Album (1980), Strawberries (1982), Phantasmagoria (1985), and Anything (1986), which saw the band moving towards a gothic rock style. The latter two albums did not feature Captain Sensible, who had left the band in 1984] In 1988, James and Sensible rejoined to play what was said to be the Damned's final live show. This was released the next year as the live album Final Damnation.
The Damned again reformed for a tour in 1991. In 1995, they released a new album, Not of This Earth, which was Scabies's last with the band. This was followed by Grave Disorder (2001), So, Who's Paranoid? (2008), and their most recent album, and the first to crack the United Kingdom's Official Charts' top 10 list, landing at #7, Evil Spirits (2018).
Despite going through numerous lineup changes, the formation of Vanian, Sensible, keyboardist Monty Oxymoron, drummer Pinch and bassist Stu West had been together from 2004 until 2017, when West left the band and former bassist Paul Gray rejoined.
The band is well known for being one of the first gothic rock bands and a major influence on the goth subculture with lead singer Dave Vanian's vampire themed costume, baritone singing voice and dark lyrics being major influences.[16]
The Damned influenced future hardcore punk bands with their fast-paced, energetic playing style and attitude. Along with the Sex Pistols and the Clash, they helped to spearhead the punk movement in the United Kingdom. They are sometimes referred to as British punk's "band of firsts," having made accomplishments mentioned previously, as well as other "firsts" like the first punk band to break up and come back.

4.0 out of 5 starsNaz Nomad, Baby...YeahFebruary 27, 2002
Format: Audio CD I have to wonder if Mike Myers has a copy of this 1985 album. More than a decade before Austin Powers lampooned London in the 60's there was Naz Nomad and the Nightmares with their wonderful "Music from 'Give Daddy the Knife Cindy', a Psychedelic spoof/tribute (it really IS a very fine line...)from members of The Damned. Their comical take on the psychedelic/garage sound of bands like The Seeds and The Electric Prunes is bang on. The album is one fantastic and trippy tounge-in-cheek celebration of 60's psychedelia. This album is no Spinal Tap joke, but a humorous hommage to bands like the Chocolate Watchband, Strawberry Alarm Clock and Electric Prunes. The fuzztone guitars, cheesy Farfisa Organ, trippy vocals...it's all here. You could almost believe it really is a long lost psychedelic movie soundtrack. It's difficult to remember not to take it all too seriously...this is such great music. Naz and The Damned were out to have some fun and pay tribute to the late 60's fuzz bands and the result is wonderful, catchy, funny and an absolute blast. Psyche OUT, Baby! All this more than 10 years before Austin Powers. Now THAT is just Too Groovy Baby...Yeah! 4.0 outHarvey J.Satan 5.0 out of 5 starsDross From The Paisley Strawberry!

Format: Audio CD If you saw the film "Give Daddy The Knife,Cindy",then you know exactly what this soundtrack is all about! If you didn't....you can still enjoy the experience, through the musical essences provided by Naz Nomad and The Nightmares.( Not to be confused with several other people named "Naz Nomad" or "The Nightmares").It's truely amazing how long this soundtrack took to get released. (Perhaps it's the similarity in sound to Sky Saxon and The Seeds? ).Full of brilliant cover versions, and a couple of originals, this album will transcend you through space and time! Naz Nomad's vocals are right up their with Jim Morrison by way of Bela Lugosi! Sphinx Svenson, the most sensible guitar player known to man, totally transgressess the milky way, with his precision string strumming! Buddy Lee Junior plays bass like John Merrick on acid! The ever lovely Ulla plays the farsifa like nobody else can, friends and Romans, listen way up! And do I smell a rat? No,it's just Nick Detroit slamming the skins, and backing the beat! To quote Eddy Taylor ( as "Cindy" )"Man,those giant spiders are laying paisley eggs in the amplifer of life! It's all one big freak out, baby!" And who are we to argue?I DO COMBINE SHIPPING!
