Description

Live recordings of songs and sayings from the Freedom Movement in the Deep South. ESP 1056. The fervor of the early 1960s mass movement that began in the South captured on vinyl.  To hear some of these amazing voices and test the quality of the vinyl,  I have made a youtube video:

Some surface noise, an occasional pop, but still very listenable. Cover has seam splits on three sides  but will arrive in a plastic cover. No tape has been applied,  12 page booklet of lyrics included. Notes by Alan Ribback.

MOVEMENT SOUL Journalist Alan Ribback, despite crippling arthritis, used his tape recorder to document moments when people fought down their terror and despair to overcome the demons who stalked them in their churches and homes and streets. That monumental struggle can be heard on this record, which was used as the sound track for the Martin Luther King Documentary Film. It is echoed on Jerry Moore's CD, BALLAD OF BIRMINGHAM, where he sings of the deaths of little girls in a church bombing.
