Description

MOTORHEAD BBC Live & In-Session. 4 vinyl LP's 2008 UK 22-track pair of double LPs pressed on 180gm vinyl. Each double LP is housed in its own gatefold picture sleeve. Below is an independent review of the albums on offer
ONE OF THE BEST SESSIONS IN THE HISTORY OF THE BBC
This release will get stereotyped as a sort of release that is only for "die-hard" fans of MOTORHEAD, but as it turns out, it is essential even for the new fan who is just beginning to become acquainted with the classic rock of Motorhead and its diverse roots in both blues, psychedelic and heavy Rock'n'Roll essences. The only gripe a long-time fan would have with these 4LP's is the track selection. The track selection had been decided upon mainly due to the circumstances at the time of the bands existence, and so this means they could only choose those tracks which were already written and to be found on the release(s) the band had available at the time of these sessions.
While the band had already released 5 albums by this time, songs from the album "BOMBER" were excluded entirely and more focus was placed on a mix of those unique tracks from the first, self-titled release and those found on "OVERKILL", one of their best and most influential albums, and so this aspect alone made the inclusion of those songs favourable to the essence of these sessions, making the final result equally favourable and rewarding to both experienced and even inexperienced fans.
It is relatively difficult to say which disc is the most important. While the sound of the John Peel sessions (1978) on disc one sound excellent, you are still enticed with the tracks taken from the ACE OF SPADES album found on the DAVID JENSEN show in 1981. The Live concert from the PARIS THEATER in 1979 features excellent live versions of "I'LL BE YOUR SISTER", "I WON'T PAY YOUR PRICE" and the well-known "NO CLASS" in a short, but memorable 8-song set with the classic line-up of "Philthy" Phil Taylor, "Fast-Eddie" Clarke and Lemmy on vocals and bass and just beginning to envelop himself towards his prime as a songwriter and front-man.
Lastly, if you ever dreamed of hearing what the lost potential of "ORGASMATRON" would sound like had it been produced under more favourable circumstances, then fast forward to 1986 when Lemmy and his then-present line-up played not only the title track, but also "DOCTOR ROCK", "DEAF FOREVER" and even "KILLED BY DEATH" and all in addition to the title-track and its Spoken-word, Lyric-only version, recited by Lemmy himself with his commanding English voice and eerie vibe.
