Description
THE COMPLETE COMMODORE JAZZ RECORDINGS, VOLUME 2, Mosaic MR23-128, 23 LP's with 48 page booklet. One of an edition limited to 2500.
Condition of records is M-, no scuffs, no scratches, no spindle marks, plays very clean & quiet. Box is intact, with a few slide marks on bottom. Booklet in very nice shape.
Perhaps Mosaic's most ambitious project, this magnificent set is the second of three volumes documenting the complete jazz recordings of one of the first independent jazz labels. This volume begins in February 1944 and concludes in March 1945. Over the course of the 23 LP's are complete classic recording dates by Albert Ammons (2 sessions), DeParis Brothers, Eddie Heywood (2), Hot Lips Page (2), Big Sid Catlett, Billie Holiday (3), Lester Young, George Zack (5), Muggsy Spanier (4), Miff Mole, Joe Bushkin (2), Max Kaminsky, Edmond Hall (2), George Wettling, Bobby Hackett, Pee Wee Russell, Red McKenzie, Jess Stacy, Jack Teagarden, & Wild Bill Davison (2). In addition to all the music originally released on 78, there is a tremendous amount of unreleased music - alternates takes as well as unissued titles. As we have come to expect from Mosaic, the booklet is loaded with full discographical details, vintage pictures, an interview with founder Milt Gabler, and a session-by-session commentary by Dan Morgenstern. This set was released on vinyl only.
