Description
Here is the legendary original pressing of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for unaccompanied violin played by Nathan Milstein. Capitol Records original mono 3 disc set, PCR 8370. Orginal green and gold label discs.
Also included is the 7" 45 rpm spoken intro by Milstein and the accompanying letter from Capitol thanking the buyer for being a "subscriber" This would seem to identify this set as an early pressing.
Not a perfect copy, but really quite nice to listen to. Overall, plays with great sound and pretty quiet surfaces (better yet, I'm sure, with a mono cartridge). Four of the sides play VG++ or better, with just occasional light tics. Two sides have marks that sound for about a minute or less. One is a scuff which results in a few "swooshes" and the other tics for about a minute or so. All of this makes it sound worse than it is. Very little spindle wear on the discs (see pic). These were not played much. Overall, a very nice playing copy of this very hard to find set, and the performances, of course are without reproach.
Cover lid is separated and has some wear to the edges, still presentable. Box is not crushed.
