Description

For sale is this very scarce vinyl LP of MILES DAVIS - MILESTONES on Fontana Records. I believe this copy is the 1959 U.K. 1st Pressing of this iconic Jazz record. It has a laminated cover with white Fontana logo top right. The rear has flip-backs at top and bottom and the front lamination continues about 20mm past the spine with the rest unlaminated. The disc has black fontana labels. The matrices are as follows:
Side One - AA682030▽1L=1 // 420     Side Two - AA682030▽2L=1 // 420
The personnel on the record are: Miles Davis - Trumpet & Piano, Cannonball Adderley - Alto Sax, John Coltrane - Baritone Sax, Red Garland - Piano, Paul Chambers - Bass and "Philly" Joe Jones - Drums.
Condition*:The sleeve is a strong VG+. Wonderful condition for its age. The front is very clean with very little creasing. There is a very faint impression of the disc when held up to the light. The bottom edge has very light shelf wear. The opening edge has very light wear. The spine and top are unworn. The bottom left corner has some wear, the other corners much less so. The back of the sleeve is very tidy. There are light signs of handling on either side. The text is clear and unworn.
The disc is graded EX. The surfaces are glossy and clean. Under harsh light there are a number of very light surface marks. The record has been played through from start to finish and plays incredibly. There is very little surface noise or crackle even between tracks. The only flaw I heard in playback was a very low audible tick for 5 turns during Paul Chambers bass break on Sid's Ahead (Side 1, Track 2) which was far from being intrusive. The mastering of this pressing is really remarkable and throughout the sound is stunning. Overall a really beautiful copy of this iconic Miles Davis 1st Pressing which I cannot recommend highly enough.

Thanks for looking! If this item interests you why not have a look at my other listings? This record is one of a number I was lucky to acquire recently, all from the archive of a single fastidious collector, many of which I will be listing in the coming days taking in Jazz, Blues and Folk including further early Miles Davis, several John Coltranes and lots of others, many of them in stunning 1st Pressings. Please feel free to make use of the "MAKE OFFER" button - I won't mind at all.

*Please note: Grading vinyl is a highly subjective thing. I am not a professional. I am just selling a small number of records. I can only give an honest appraisal based on careful visual inspection and thorough play testing. I do try to describe all significant faults and I certainly won't intentionally hide anything. Please read the description carefully, look at the pictures and make your own mind up. The grading scale I have used  goes from G to NM with VG+ as par. In other words: Good (G), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Excellent (EX) and Near Mint (NM). Anything better than that would be Mint and would be listed as new. Anything worse than Good I probably wouldn't be selling.
