Description

An original and genuine 1st stereo press of MD in Europe from summer 1964. Matrix 1/1. Let's just mention that this is genuine and ABSOLUTE 1st press. Not just 1st issue...absolute 1st press from summer '64. Textured labels with large "33" speed as found on mid-sixties, and earlier. So, why is this absolute 1st? Because the record was pressed by Philips plant, and not CBS. Note the deadwax mentions the company code 'V420'. It was around this point that CBS introduced/took-over their own plant in the UK. Up until this point - CBS titles were all pressed on Philips in the UK. Which makes this copy VERY early and also a relative rarity being in the <STEREO> format. Folks were starting to take on stereo reproducers by '64 - but the vast majority were still listening in mono. 'Recording 1st Published' - present and only found on true 1st issue. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original and correct - stereo cover. We also have a mid-sixties CBS inner... from around a year later [still looks good though!].
Vinyl (Ex) Wow a super slab of vinyl - if only all 60's copies surfaced looking like this. FULL lustre and minimal signs of use. Maybe a couple of slightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback. I am grading conservatively for two reasons...number one....this is Jazz! Number two - even to my untrained ears Miles is not blasting it out. This is quite lowkey in parts - finding a copy from '64 that plays this all clean is like finding a needle in a haystack somewhere in the midwest. The audio is really clean signalled. Even for a jazz purist - this copy is going to impress. Can't really fault it. Ok, maybe a couple of crackles as side 1 starts up...but it is playing clean from early on and right through. At worst a couple of isolated crackles in a couple of spots. A total show-stopper and super preserved copy...
Cover (Vg+) Again, someone's looked after this bad-boy well haven't they the design is white front AND white rear! What are the chances of a '64 copy surfacing like this.? The front is a total beaut. No signs of ageing. No creasing or hidden problems - only slightest handing. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process - just some evidence at extremities. There's a neat inscription top left - otherwise, given the vintage, very tidy indeed. Minimal edge wear and firm openings. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A coupe of small side splits - tape repaired internally.
