Considering the price I was asked to take a picture of the vinyl itself. I have added such pictures, but the more one magnifies/enhances the pictures the more it shows dust and--as with any magnification--seems to make the item look worse. Finally, I took a picture just inside my glass front door to get as much light as possible; of course, you will see reflections from the trees, et cetera, outside, but...
The Way I See It: Disclosures
1. The record/s sent to you are additionally protected with bubble wrap. The corrugated mailing jacket/box costs at least 50 cents and the bubble wrap a little; this is added to the cost of the mailing. I have no idea how some folks can sell a record for just $2.50 and get it safely to you—or even for $5 with free shipping. You probably know that you usually get what you pay for.
2. I hope you enjoy your purchase. Please note that if you find a record with too many crackles, pops and such, it needs cleaning, but I’m disclosing that up front. Cleaning is time consuming, but not expensive. You can find a record-cleaning machine for no more than $30 on the Internet to help you, but the old fashioned way works too: a fingernail brush (won’t damage the grooves if you scrub with the grooves), 12 oz. distilled water ( because it doesn’t have minerals), isoprophyl alcohol (2 oz), a couple drops of Dawn (because it has a surfactant for cleaning), drying with a soft towel or microfiber cloth, and air drying longer.
3. Note, though, that those fussy vinyl collectors will say that EVERY record needs cleaning; I’ll leave that judgement up to you. Just don’t continually use the alcohol.
Record Ratings
Note that I am grading my records visually only—I don’t have a record player. If the record is shiny, clean and without scratches, but opened, I will call it near-mint. If it has a few smudges and very few minor (not deep) scratches I label it very excellent. I will follow the E-Bay ratings. I have cleaned a few records—using YouTube video instructions—that are just plain dirty or dirty but have almost no scratches. I try to reflect the visual quality of the record in the price of the record, as well as my competitor’s prices. If the record sleeve is in mint condition, in disrepair or just plain shot, I’ll note that, too. View my other offerings on E-bay, too. Thanks for visiting.
