Very rare original pressing of the last real Michael Jackson album in my opinion. It was on the promotional tour for this album that he caught on fire and subsequently got addicted to pain killers and plastic surgery, allegedly of course.
Although it seems odd to call a Michael Jackson album rare, this was during the CD boom and at a time when vinyl was almost dead. Add to the fact that this was a mainstream record and considered by many as a throw away item rather than something to treasure, there are not many left.
Unfortunately this is well worn example and to some point should be considered as a historical collectors piece to go along side one of the nice remasters to play. Personally the greatest pleasure I get from collecting records is finding great sounding examples to enjoy but I know a lot of people think differently and would treasure such a rare piece, not to mention something that is and will likely continue to increase in value. In the same way I have a numbered White Album which looks like a dogs frisbee but I will treasure it then listen to my pristine German pressing.
All of my records are play tested on a Project Debut Carbon with 2M Red stylus which is quite revealing so any sound defects may be more exaggerated than on other more mainstream players. Or conversely if you are a full on audiophile I will let you judge how your set up compares and how you envisage the sound will compare.
I don't currently have access to a cleaning machine so please forgive any dust or finger marks which are on any of my records - hopefully will be investing in one at some point
Record Appearance - G I can only rate this as "Good" in the record collector sense of the word. There is still some gloss, better on some sides than others. There are a lot of scratches and grazes presumably from being stored out of it's sleeve. Really angers me how people can be so disrespectful to records but such is life. Labels are very clean.
Record Audio - G/VG Overall there is a lot of surface noise which is quite pronounced in between tracks and on quieter sections of the record. Although some of the louder songs, Black and White being a good example, the rich sound shines through drowning out the noise. I don't recall hearing any skips or jumps so not a complete write off by any means. The condition is really frustrating as when the record hits it stride the mastering is full and rich and very enjoyable.
Record Sleeve - VG This is close to a VG+ but there are a couple of strong creases and a small tear on the rear edge. The star of the show front cover is actually very good with only small creases visible at the top edge. The beautiful artwork is unblemished and no visible ring wear. Corners and edges have some shelf wear, exaggerated by the black background. The top of the spine is quite worn but the rest is sold and the artist and title very clear. Retains the original Sony hype sticker which is a nice touch.
