This is the original Hot Topic exclusive ‘Spilled Milk’ pressing of Melanie Martinez’s Cry Baby, released during the original Cry Baby era.
This is NOT the newer liquid-filled Spilled Milk vinyl, an anniversary edition, or a later repress. This is the original, long-discontinued Hot Topic pressing and a genuine relic of the era that created Cry Baby.
For an OG Melanie Martinez collector, this is the one.
You will not find this again.
Check anywhere. Search eBay, Discogs, collector groups, specialist vinyl marketplaces and auction archives. Anyone who has one simply is not selling one, and that has effectively been the case for the past couple of years. When an original copy does surface, it is an event in itself.
This is not simply a record that is expensive but readily available. Availability itself is the problem. You can have the money ready and still have no copy to buy.
That scarcity has pushed this pressing beyond ordinary fan merchandise and into the territory of a genuine collector’s piece. Copies have appeared through auction channels and attracted serious bidding. One original pink and milky-white Hot Topic copy sold at UK auction for £780 after 14 separate bids.
That is the sort of provenance normally associated with collectibles that have left ordinary retail behind. This is something you increasingly have to hunt through private collectors, specialist marketplaces and auction archives to even find evidence of previous examples.
And that is precisely what separates this pressing from the newer Cry Baby vinyl releases.
There will be more anniversary editions. There will be more coloured pressings. There are newer liquid-filled versions of the Spilled Milk concept.
This cannot be recreated.
This record comes directly from the original Cry Baby era. It was released as a Hot Topic exclusive when the album itself was still new, long before the modern anniversary releases, liquid editions and later collector pressings existed.
Its distinctive milky translucent appearance with the pink centre became one of the defining early Cry Baby variants.
The newer Spilled Milk vinyl may be more elaborate technically, but it is a modern release. For an OG collector, that is the fundamental difference.
This one was there.
It is an original surviving artefact from the Cry Baby era itself.
That is why collectors have paid auction-house money for it. You are not simply buying a vinyl record. You are buying scarcity, provenance and a physical piece of the original era that cannot be manufactured again.
