An extraordinary piece of Beatles vinyl history—the original U.S. Capitol Compact 33rpm 7” jukebox release of Meet The Beatles!, complete with the original picture sleeve. This is one of the rarest official Beatles items ever pressed by Capitol, and an almost mythical find on this side of the Atlantic.
🕰️ The History – Beatles Meet the Compact 33
In 1964, Capitol Records issued a limited series of Compact 33s—a 7” vinyl format playing at 33 1/3 RPM, intended exclusively for jukebox use. The format was a short-lived experiment in the U.S. and never widely adopted. Each record came with a miniature LP-style picture sleeve (usually mirroring the album cover art), and most were paired with jukebox title strips.
This particular release—Capitol PRO 2549—features selections from Meet The Beatles! on both sides of the disc, offering a condensed jukebox-friendly version of the album. Very few were pressed, and even fewer have survived in collectible condition, especially with the sleeve intact.
These Compact 33s were never sold to the public, and were distributed in extremely limited quantities to jukebox operators. The fragile picture sleeves, made of thin glossy paper stock, were prone to tearing and loss, making intact examples vanishingly rare.
