Description
Two box sets comprising Mahler’s Symphonies nos 1-4 (Haitink, Concertgebouw Orchestra) – 6 LPs, Philips AXS6000 and Mahler’s Symphony no 5 (Barbirolli, New Philharmonia Orchestra) & Five Ruckert Songs (with Janet Baker) – 2 LPs, EMI HMV ASD2518-9.
Whilst I no longer have any hi-fi system on which these records can be tested, my recollection is that they were in excellent condition, having been played only a few times since they were bought by my family c1973. They have been carefully stored unused for most of the past 40 years.
The six LPs of Symphonies nos 1-4 are in visually immaculate condition. Its front-opening box is in clean condition, with only light signs of handling, and has one carefully repaired split at a corner of the inner box.
The two LPs of Symphony no. 5 are in excellent condition visually, with the playing surfaces showing no visible marks except for the last track of Side 4 (Five Ruckert Songs), which has a light surface mark across the track. From my experience of using vinyl records, I consider that this mark is not likely to be highly audible, and possibly may not be audible at all. The front-opening box of Symphony no. 5 is in clean and undamaged condition, with only light signs of handling.
Both box sets contain LP sized booklets. The 24-page illustrated booklet for Symphonies nos. 1-4 is in excellent condition, with only very light signs of handling. The 4-page booklet for Symphony no. 5 is in reasonable condition, but has a pronounced crease along its ‘spine’ and a small stain on the front page (which shows through to page 2).
