Mack Rice – ‘Baby I’m Coming Home’ / ‘My Baby’ – Lu Pine 119 (US)

 

Early Detroit soul at its finest. A founder member of the Falcons, Clarksdale, Mississippi-born Mack Rice went on to write and sing the classic ‘Mustang Sally’, later covered by Wilson Pickett. He joined Ollie & The Nightingales in 1970, and co-wrote the magnificent ‘Respect Yourself’ for the Staple Singers a couple of years later. Picking up well-deserved attention in recent times, this 1962 recording was his first solo release, one of many wonderful records on the collectable Lu Pine label! This is a first press original, prior to the national release through Atlantic (Lu Pine 1019, with black print). Happily, Mack Rice is active to this day; check the wonderful live clips on Youtube!

Condition: Excellent; a little dust, that’s all (please listen to the clips). Clean labels (please see scans).

Shipping from Sweden is expensive – though the rest of the world is surely catching up – not least due to the fact that the weight increments are few and far apart, but it’s usually swift and safe.
