Like many Beefheart fans, I checked these guys out because Jeff Cotton AKA Antennae Jimmy Semens is in the group but I wasn't expecting anything very Beefheartian, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of these songs clearly display a Beefheart influence, specifically the "Mirror Man/Strictly Personal" era. The stuttering guitars and shuffling blues rhythms definitely recall the material on those albums without seeming like they're trying to copy them. Cotton's guitar style has remained pretty similar and the drummer even seems to be trying to play like John French AKA Drumbo. And though the singer isn't nearly as intense as The Captain and is more of a singer in the traditional sense, he does do a couple of half-spoken vocals that slightly recall Mr. Van Vliet. However, most of the songs aren't anything special so I can't really give this a higher grade than 3.5 stars. Still, if you dig the style, you'll definitely want to check this out. Main highlights: "Eternal Thirst", "Ballad of Brother Lew" and "Ain't No Blues".
