Description

THE SISTERHOOD -- MSR Records 1977 Christmas Album -- ex. rare, original 1977 U.S. album.  This is one in the long-running series of now highly sought-after MSR Song Poem LP's -- basically scam records that paired amateur songwriters/poets with anonymous MSR studio musicians, which resulted in some of the strangest and most other-worldly music ever set to vinyl.  (Producer/performer Rodd Keith was the resident gonzo genius behind MSR; his story and music is well-documented on-line and in a series of CD reissues.)  This LP opens w/ one of the most gloriously deranged MSR songs ever, Helen Lucille Becker's "Jesus" performed by The Sisterhood, an indescribably eerie Lounge-Psych number w/ haunting organ that sounds something like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds doing a Xmas song about Jesus ... True genius.  Other demented highlights include A. Mack Gaither's Funk-Lounge song "Ole Year Christmas" (reissued recently on one of the MSR CD comps), Mary A. Ozoskey's groovy uptempo 1970's Pop number "A Man Called Santa Claus" w/ a Carpenters/Captain & Tennille vibe and others.  A very hard record to find -- does not come up for sale often.  See photo for track listing.  Cover:  VG+/VG++, ring wear, wear at corners, light abrasions/wear at back cover upper edge.  Record:  VG+++/Near Mint-, on MSR label, U.S. pressing.
