For auction today: Motowns - s/t. Cat. # MDF 33 48. Pressed in Italy on Cinevox label.
Often demented pop psych into progressive rock with fuzz attack/effects and plenty of hammond organ on many tracks. A real treat for psych collectors. No need to hype the rarity of this beast as enough ebayers would know what they are looking at now. For the benefit of those that have not heard it, here is a track by track description of the each one that makes up this lp from UK band who recorded in Italy in 1971!!
I want to die - Slow bass rhythym with choral sounding vox singing "I want to die, all on my own..." Sounds a bit smacked-out really. Thought it was on the 16 rpm at first. Hammond to the fore in parts. Madness.
Move on out - Uptempo psych track with acoustic guitar and snarling fuzzed electric guitar to the fore. TOPS!.
Wings of a Bird - Pop-psych with Hammond organ to the fore and strange stoned vibe like Corporal Clegg for sure.
Promise - Silly jug band style track. Typical of English groups. I think most lp's have one of these like Magic Mixture springs to mind.
My Sleeping Lady - Uptempo definite psych overtones with drums and hammond to the fore. Absolutely superb melody.
The Eagle - Heavy progressive track of the highest order. Starts with savage bassy riffs and hammond organ similar to Budgie or Elias Hulk then wahwah and fuzz laden electric lead and organ come into play. Killer. No question about it.
Back to My baby - Uptempo pop-psych. Very English sounding. Nice melody.
My kind of Loving - Another uptempo psych track. This one has strange effects and fuzz guitar weaving in and out between the track. Very effective and nice.
Woman Pig - VERY strange track. Hammond organ playful in the background while conversation in the foreground sounds like an upper class boy comes round to a girls house and tries to trick her into sleeping with him. After not much effort on his part, she does!! A couple of minutes of the sound of them shagging and heavy breathing takes listener to the end of the track. Beyond comment really.
A trip around the World. - This is one of THE strangest tracks I have heard in my life...big statement. Goes for about 10 minutes. Instrumental. Sort of backwards and forwards fuzz guitar and drums with echo effects all the way through. Quite incohesive really. Sound of man ranting in some very strange language which I have never heard before and bagpipes. That's the best I can do....sorry. Beyond description maybe. Overall, very unnerving due to the strange atmosphere. I do not recommend you listen to this on any recreational drugs at all. You are warned.
Item Condition: Wear to front, rear, seams and spine. Super clean disc with 1 or 2 light scuffs only and a slight warp which is hard to see and does NOT affect play AT ALL. Small writting in pencil on S1 label. May be a pr0m0 copy as it has some stamp on it saying what seems like "non commercial" in Italian...pls look closely at pix.
Gets 4 star rarity rating in Pokora's RRCB book (previous to his 1001 RCDreams book). It was published about 10 years ago. Anyone who wins this will not be disappointed. Infact, I will happily put it in my private collection, if it doesn't sell.
Graded: cover/disc = VG+/EX.
