So, up for auction is a hard to find very rare original PROMOTIONAL NOT FOR RESALE copy of the Diana Ross & The Supremes’ The Composer / Take Me Where You Go 45 rpm 7-inch single that was released in the United Kingdom in April of 1985 with Tamla Motown black labels with silver print, Cat No TMG 999 and Matrix Nos TMG 999 A 1 V Penthouse C : [A side] and TMG 999 B  1 V Penthouse C : [B side, both hand - written / machine - stamped]. Pressed in very small quantities as part of the UK-manufactured series of 20 Motown Classic Singles that were marketed and distributed by RCA Ltd that year and housed in a bespoke die-cut blue, white and pink sleeve with the text A Motown Classic Single on the front and series details on the reverse, it features a unique pairing of the following Diana Ross & The Supremes songs:

A side: The Composer [2:55]

B side: Take Me Where You Go [2:44]

The Composer was written and produced by Smokey Robinson with instrumentation by The Funk Brothers. As with many Diana Ross & The Supremes releases, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong did not sing on the record but rather Motown session singers The Andantes, i.e. Jackie Hicks, Marlene Barrow and Louvain Demps backing the lead vocals of Diana Ross! The song was originally recorded by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1967 but remained unissued until the release of their Time Out for Smokey Robinson & The Miracles album in 1969.

Take Me Where You Go was co -written by Smokey Robinson and Warren Thomas Moore but the Diana Ross & The Supremes recording was - due to quality control ? - shelved until the release of the From The Vaults album, a UK 10-track compilation lp of never before released recordings by Motown's stars of the ‘60s! The Marvelettes, i.e. their lead singer Wanda Young Rogers backed by the Andantes again [!], rerecorded the song in 1970 in a very different way for The Return Of The Marvelettes album!

Grading: I use the GOLDMINE standards for grading STRICTLY & CONSERVATIVELY  the condition of the items listed.The grading is mostly visual, though, when in doubt, I d? “spot check” each of the songs play-graded on a Technics SL-1200MK2 with a, weight of 1.5 gram, Stanton 681 EEE MK III! As for the covers, please, look at the photos to evaluate yourself - with grading being a subjective matter, pictures are an objective way to evaluate for yourself!
