Description

Check out my auctions this week for some awesome and very unique acetates, including a very rare 12” Brenda Holloway and Stevie Wonder acetate! Here’s a fascinating double sided 8 inch acetate from the Supremes. The songs on the acetate are “Make Someone Happy” and “People”. From my research, these songs appear to have been part of a canceled Supremes LP that was to be titled “There’s A Place For Us”. Versions of these two songs were recorded during the live shows that became the “At The Copa” album, but these are NOT them… these are studio versions, and not live at all. Interestingly, someone scratched out the name “Supremes” on the side that contains the song “People”. The only thing I can conjecture about this is the fact that Diana Ross does not sing lead on this song… Florence Ballard takes the lead on this one. Perhaps someone felt that it simply wasn’t a Supremes recording if Diana wasn’t singing lead. The acetate has been treated roughly through the years and has a fair amount of scuffing and scratches, but it does play through without skipping. The studio that created this acetate is Western Recorders, one of Hollywood’s most prominent recording studios in the 1960s. Incidentally, the building is still there, and still operates as a recording studio… I stood outside of it a few years back and snapped a few pictures! Good luck bidding on this fascinating piece of Motown history! Drop me a message if ebay doesn’t calculate shipping for you. California residents add 7.975% tax. Happy bidding!!
