Description
Another hideously rare British pop single that got lauded on the Sweet Floral Albion site many months ago, and then became instantly impossible to find. From a band called Mother Nature, and a songwriter called Steepy Rojo, this single pairs "Once There Was a Time" with "Clear Blue Sky" from 1972 on the UK Kingdom label. Here's what SFA had to say about it at the time:
"MOTHER NATURE - 'Once There was A Time' (Kingdom KV 8003) 1972.
This song (and it's flip, 'Clear Blue Sky'), is full of cool hippie ecological-aware sentiments, written by the unusually monikered Steepy Rojo. It's also full of lovely harmonies, delivered in a down beat, minor chord Beatles/Zombies-style, with hints of early Yes. Like a refugee from 1968, its swirling awe-struck vibe is light-years away from the far less interesting mainstream sounds of 1972."
Quite true, all of it. In fact, I'd think "Once There Was a Time" would strongly appeal to the Fading Yellow sunshine pop set, with its bouncy piano melody, somewhat twee falsetto vocals and delicious "doo doo doo" harmony vocals. The flipside is more in the lush, acoustic pastoral pop vein, like early America with some beautiful harmonies. Needless to say, both sides are yet uncomped. Don't be put off by the 1972 release date - this is late 60's sunshine pop at its finest. Poor Steepy Rojo was stuck 4 years in the past. Original 1972 pressing on the UK Kingdom label. Vinyl looks perfect, but due to the small label pressing, plays VG to VG+ with surface noise. Still very enjoyable. Winning bidder pays $4.00 shipping in the US, $5 to Canada, $6 everywhere else.
