Limited edition private pressing on the forever obscure British "SMILE" label, 1971
Out of the ashes of Nelsons ASTRAL NAVIGATION psych/acid band came a solo entitled NORTHERN DREAM ..."Northern Dream" was financed by the owner of the Record Bar, a local Wakefield record store. The initial pressing was limited to 250 copies ... one of which found its way to BBC disc jockey John Peel, whose late-night Radio One shows were a constant influence on British rock music. Peel took an immediate liking to the record, playing cuts from it on a regular basis ... Throughout the album one finds a relaxed flowing drifty charasmatic groove, nicely scattered fuzz leads, pleasant voice, an obvious talent in the underground-sounds singer-songwriter hip-cat genre. The bottleneck guitar, recorder, whirling flute all played by Nelson fit the song structures nicely.
Long considered a psych collectible, the 1971 recording has become quite scarce in the fold-out sleeve with unusual inner gatefold design that houses the record.
