Description
Massive vintage northern soul 45 gem featuring THE MOMENTS on the HOG label out of Washington, D.C., from approximately the mid to late sixties.
Titles are “Baby, I Want You” b/w “Pray For Me.” You Lie So Well” and “A Little Too Lonely.”
This is an original pressing on styrene, catalog number is Hog 1000. Label is red with black print.
Both of these excellent sides are written by Larry Mizell. This session was produced by the Mizell Brothers (Larry, Fonce, and Rod). I found a web site (Red Bull Music Academy) where Larry talks about this record:
LM: This was a record company we started back in college called Hog Records. Our group was The Moments…
..We put together what we called the record company, paid for it, rented a studio, found some students at another college called Morgan State (Baltimore), named them The Moments and took them into a studio, hired some strings from the air force, $25 the lot. We put together this record and we didn’t know what to do with it after that… The record surfaced a few years ago on eBay and sold for almost $5,000. There’s not too many copies around now, so needless to say we went through the basement looking for them to find them, but it was a fruitless search.”
The condition of this record is mixed. The “A” side, “Baby” I Want You, is nice VG to VG+ with most of the original gloss remaining. It has some minor scuffs and a few light hairlines, but no serious marks. There is a bit of light surface noise in places, but the fidelity is fairly strong and the overall listening experience is enjoyable.
The “B” side, “Pray For Me” (ballad), would grade VG at best because of two marks, one at the beginning of the side (cosmetic), and the other a scratch at the very end of the side that is audible for approximately 6 or 7 turns as the music begins to fade out. This second scratch is audible and distracting, so I provided a sound clip of the entire side so you can hear it for yourself. Otherwise, the side plays fine.
Both labels have writing of the original owner’s name “Anita Turks” and what I presume is her nickname “Turkey” in neat pen lettering. No skips, warps, stickers, or other flaws.
I think most collectors will be very pleased with the overall sound and condition of this super rarity.
Guaranteed to be authentic and original. I do not sell bootlegs or modern reissues.
As with all my records, your satisfaction is fully guaranteed. If not happy, simply return it in same condition for a full refund plus one-way postage.
