THEE original 1972 first pressing 2xLP gatefold set with colorful psychedelic colors cover ...this was the first collected works by lost sixties garage glories, and it set off a tidal wave of such comps and collecting of the gems from the sixties....this set, as first pressing, has gotten hard to find...with obvious reasons why when you look at the line-up of who's who...

The phenomenon in the early sixties with the rise of The Beatles and 'Beatlemania' followed closely by the rowdy Rolling Stones set a blaze across America in what seemed like zillions of teen bands forming in every neighborhood...

The inhibitions of the youth of the day transformed into a zillion-point-five Rolling Stones replicas.  And that’s where ”Nuggets” begins.

The music these bands made quickly became referred to as “garage”; a term designed to imply the music was a product of suburban teenage amateurs that practiced in their folk’s garage.  Although this notion is somewhat a fallacy, and the individual acts could be quite varied, – the sophisticated psychedelic-rock of The Electric Prunes wasn’t exactly comparable to “frat-rock” of The Swingin’ Medallions for example - the best Rock & Roll always includes a healthy serving of make-believe.  Another general misconception about “garage” is that it was an underground movement. While this is certainly the case with a band such as the genre's headmasters The Sonics, some of these songs became regional, national, and even international hits.  Who has yet to hear ‘Incense & Peppermints’?  Most of these bands didn’t survive the sixties.   Some didn’t make more than one single.  With the exception of Captain Beefheart - whose musical longevity lasted over 15 years - there's not one artist on this compilation that outstayed their welcome.

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 compiles singles and album tracks from these American groups of the garage era, 1965-1968.  Tracks by garage rock heavies such as The 13th Floor Elevators, Love, The Seeds and The Sonics – all of whom have discographies that are well worth exploration – are interspersed among a large list of obscure artists; some lacking their own identity.  Every song is great, and the choice track selection make this appealing to everyone from the garage novice to those that have Krazy Glued their feet into a pair of knee-high go-go boots.  Let’s face it, this is a pretty awesome collection:
