Recorded in February and March 1958 Milestones is renowned for including Miles' first forays into the developing modal jazz experiments which would be followed to their logical conclusion on Kind of Blue.
This 1958 date finds Davis with his first super group: alto and tenor saxophonists Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane, drummer Philly Joe Jones, bassist Paul Chambers, and pianist Red Garland.
It looks to the past with the bebop and blues likes of Jackie McLean's "Dr. Jackle," John Lewis and Dizzy Gillespie's "Two Bass Hit," and Thelonious Monk's "Straight No Chaser." The band points solidly to the future with the modal masterpiece "Milestones," which set the stage for the historic Kind of Blue.
Davis's own tune, "Sid's Ahead" has a melodic line like Benny Golson's "Killer Joe," and "Billy Boy" features Garland, Chambers, and Jones and is a stylistic shout to Ahmad Jamal. The title track rings with lyrical statement by Davis, and on "Straight, No Chaser" Coltrane delivers his harmonically daring solo, while Adderley takes on Trane's supersonic scalar style, capped by Chambers's grooving solo.
A truly classic recording from a classic line-up.

LABELS: The labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT with little evidence of play - NO unwanted marks/writing and only a little hole wear (please see close-up photos)
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN. There are some light pressing blemishes within the vinyl itself but barely any marks on the surfaces themselves - visually EXCELLENT
VINYL Audio: SUPERB MONO CUT with a DEEP, RICH SOUND - BEAUTIFULLY RECORDED. On playback at a very LOUD volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are NO scratches, sticks or jumps, NO loud clicks or pops and barely any surface noise (just a light touch on the run-ins and between a couple of the tracks - nothing major). The whole LP plays BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT to an extremely high standard with GREAT CLARITY, NO distortion and NO groove-wear and sounds absolutely SENSATIONAL. Critically graded as an EXCELLENT+ for audio quality this is a great copy and one which would be pretty hard to beat
SLEEVE: The original FULLY LAMINATED flipback sleeve is in REMARKABLE condition. The laminate has a BEAUTIFUL DEEP GLOSS to both the front and back surfaces with just some light record impression but otherwise CLEAN, CRISP, SHARP and FRESH - EXCELLENT++
