Here is a superb vintage box set featuring MICHAEL RABIN on solo violin, entitled “PAGANINI CAPRICES OP. 1 for unaccompanied violin.”  This is the FULL FREQUENCY STEREO version, issued in 1958 on the CAPITOL label.  Catalog number is SPBR 8477.   Includes original box, insert brochure, two records, and original inner sleeves.

Insert:  Also includes the original 4-page pamphlet insert with a discussion of Paganini and a brief description of Michael Rabin’s career up to the date of these recordings.  The pamphlet is in fairly nice shape except that if you look closely you can see a light ring stain where a glass of liquid was placed at one time. 

Box:  The box is in excellent condition, with no splits, wear, or writing.  I would grade it near mint except that the original owner placed a small notch on the spine for his identification purposes.  It is barely noticeable and could easily be repaired/filled.  The front artwork is brilliant and shows as new.   Corners and seams are free of any signs of wear, giving the appearance that this box set may have been stored in a closed hi-fi cabinet.

Vinyl:  Both discs are in exceptionally beautiful shape, and show almost no sign of use or playing.   Three sides are flawless gem NM.  On Side 4, there is one very tiny micro-scuff at the beginning of the second track (visible under close examination) which produces a soft tic for four turns of the record.  Other than that, the side plays flawlessly.  So overall, this is an outstanding listening experience.  The fidelity is awesome.  The sides are totally noiseless from beginning to end, and promise many hours of highly pleasurable listening to the fortunate winning bidder. 

Inner Sleeves:  The two full-colour Capitol inner sleeves are in very nice condition, with the exception that the bottom seam on one of them is split approx. 2 inches, and the other is fully intact.  Both paper sleeves have a small split on one side.  Otherwise they are clean and bright, and show exceptionally well for their age.
