Description
This auction is for UHQR LP of RESPIGHI: THE FESTE ROMANE – Original Master Recording by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, MFQR 1-507, Limited Edition # 3873.
Feste Romane (English “Roman Festivals”) is a work for very large symphony orchestra composed in 1926, by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. It is a tone poem depicting scenes from Ancient Rome of the Roman Empire. It is now considered a part of the Roman Trilogy of symphonic poems along with Pini di Roma, and Fontane di Roma, which are orchestral pieces set to a specific theme, tale or setting. This work is the longest and most demanding of the trilogy, thus it is less-often programmed than its companion pieces. It is also the least known of the three.
Side 2 of the record contains the other part of Respighi’s trilogy – The Pines of Rome (Italian “Pini di Roma”). This is 1924 Respighi’s work and is considered one of the masterpiecies of The Roman Trilogy. Each movement portrays the location of pine trees in the city during different parts of the day.
As you may know there were only 8 albums of UHQR quality made by MFSL in early 1980s. Each of them in limited edition of 5000 copies, each hand numbered for authenticity. Only two of the albums were chosen from classical music and Feste Romane is one of them.
To listen to this masterpiece is something you have never experienced before. It is ubsolutely STUNNING! Unfortunatelly, the MFSL went bankrupt in 1999 and they will not produce these UHQRs any more.
This Collection is near mint in condition taking into consideration it’s age. The major flaw is the bottom corner of the box visible on enclosed picture. I would say that on the picture it looks much worse than in reality.
