The Vinyl "Visual" Record Grading Scale I Use Is Listed Below:

  • NM. Appears unplayed and will bear no marks, sleeve scuffs, or scratches. No visible signs of wear or damage
  • EX. May have one or two visible imperfections (sleeve scuffs, faint scratches, or other marks) that does not affect play. Still very shiny and near new looking
  • VG+. A few visible imperfections (sleeve scuffs, light scratches, or other marks). Still very shiny with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
  • VG. Same imperfections found on VG+ records but in slightly greater numbers. No deep scratches present.
  • VG-. A number of imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force this grade, as will the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.
  • G. Pervasive imperfections of varying degrees, including both light and deep scratches. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger or weaker copies within this range.
