If this is your first encounter with Nyege Nyege Tapes then Metal Preyers is a pretty decent jumping off point. And by that we mean it's like stepping into a completely different dimension, a place where sonic art, eerie effects, forward thinking musicality and a penchant for the twisted combine to create these truly immersive soundscapes which go some way towards explaining why the imprint is in the running for Africa's most important electronic platform.
On to this album in particular, and London-based producer Jesse Hackett (known for the Ennanga Vision and Owiny Sigma band projects) teams up fellow UK capital head Lord Tusk and Chicago's Mariano Chavez for a six week studio session in Nyege's home of Kampala, Uganda. There, they welcomed a host of the county's leading aural explorers (Otyim Alpha, Lawrence Okello, Omutaba) to create an ambient-industrial masterpiece that could serve well as the score to some lost avant garde movie.
