Self Titled Debut LP
XARL 6272-1A Matrix Number - 2.52 Version of Tell Me!!!
On offer here is one of the true holy grails of Rolling Stones collecting! This is an original early 1st press of the Rolling Stones self titled debut LP on the Decca label and features the legendary XARL 6272-1A matrix number on side 2, indicating that this copy features the immediately withdrawn demo take of the song Tell Me!
When this LP was initially mastered and produced the incorrect version of the song Tell Me was used. This early take was a very bare, shaky take that only lasted for just under 3 minutes and sounded very amateurish. The mistake was immediately spotted and production stopped whilst the correct, longer version of the song was added. matrix numbers moved to -3A, and production continued.
Due to how instantly this error was caught and corrected, and due to how insanely different the version used on this copy sounded, the 1A copies are deemed to be a holy grail of Stones and general vinyl collectors. It's thought that just a few hundred copies were ever produced before the song was changed, and today it is pretty much impossible to find a copy!
