Having dropped a substantial body of work with Bladee back in 2020, you could be forgiven for thinking Mechatok already has his album stripes. But you'd be wrong. Wide Awake is his official debut and wow is it a proper album of substance. Intense, condense and heavily inspired by hyperpop, k-pop videos and all things fast culture, it leaps in all directions at once. Cute pop, thumping EDM, hyperpop and trap beats all come at you within the first four tracks as the German maverick pours his heart and brain. Imagine Tiga, Pet Shop Boys, Sophie, Daft Punk and Daphni formed some type of Voltron type of giant and showered you with the very best their DAWs contained. That's what we have right here but expressed in Mechatok's turbo charged, jumpy but super smooth way. Has anyone ever said MEGAtok before?
