Description
Greetings.
Offered for sale is one of the very first, if not THE very first recording by the late trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson. Very, very, very hard to find. Maynard Ferguson was known for his unique and mind-boggling abilities in the stratospheric ranges of the trumpet. He rose to fame in the 1950's as a featured trumpet player with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, which is well documented on record and film. But he got his start with the Charlie Barnet Orchestra in the late 1940's, and it was his rendition of Jerome Kern's "All The Things You Are" that got him his first recognition, and in fact, infamy. Legend has it that Jerome Kern's widow was so outraged by the daring and raging trumpet solo by Maynard that she sued to have the record pulled from circulation, and was successful, thereby increasing it's scarcity. I have listened to this record it it is one of the most amazing examples of upper octave trumpet playing I have ever heard in my entire life, bar none. If you know about Maynard Ferguson, and are a collector of Maynard Ferguson recordings, you know that no collection is complete, I mean TRULY complete, without this recording. After all, it's what started it all for Maynard Ferguson. I would love for this classic, extremely rare, legendary jazz record to have a good home.
I obtained this record in the 1970's as part of a vinyl jazz collection. I have played it only a couple of times, and it plays well, but does exhibit some crackling, but not very bad considering the age of the record. I would list it as VG to Ex condition. No scratches.
Very low opening bid. 12.00 shipping, no reserve. Thank you for looking, and good luck. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
