"International Pop Overthrow" Vinyl LP
Original 1991 European Pressing (Mercury 848 155-1) - Very rare in this, Near Mint, condition
Material Issue were an Illinois-based trio, consisting of Jim Ellison, Ted Ansani & Mike Zelenko. After playing the Chicago circuit, the band released a series of singles in 1987 on small labels. Their first major-label release, through Mercury Records, "International Pop Overthrow" compiled all these tracks, giving them strong success on the college radio circuit, as well as critical acclaim.
Regarded as their finest album, "International Pop Overthrow" is a great example of 80's Power-Pop, produced by Jeff Murphy of The Shoes. Their sound is clean and uncluttered, displaying influences of Big Star, The Raspberries, early Cheap Trick and "The Kids Are Alright"-era Who, though Ellison's melodies are leaner and more direct than those of his obvious inspirations. The songs are smart and hooky and the band are not afraid to let their amps go into the red. A wonderful record.
After releasing two more records ("Destination Universe" & "Freak City Soundtrack") the group began working on their fourth album "Telecommando Americano". Sadly before the album was released, lead singer Jim Ellison committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning on June 20th, 1996.
This item has been carefully stored since purchase in 1991 and played only once to check for defects.

Vinyl:
Visual condition: The disc is in truly excellent condition; clean and shiny, with no scuffs or scratches at all. I would class it as mint, were it not for one or two, very faint, surface marks, as would be expected from occasional removal from inner-sleeve.
Audible condition: Sound is bright and clear with no pops or clicks at all and no distortion or background noise, even between tracks.
Sleeve:
Condition: The sleeve is in outstanding condition; glossy, stiff and flat, with sharp, square corners, perfect edges, top & bottom and a rigid, undamaged spine, with all text clearly visible. No bends, creases or tears and no obvious signs of wear. I would class this cover as mint, but for the faintest discolouration from the original bright white.
