Released at the height of Martha & the Vandellas' success, this 12-song compilation assembles most of the group's hit singles from their first three years as a recording act. It's difficult to criticize a collection that gets such soaring numbers as "You've Been in Love Too Long," "Dancing in the Street," "Nowhere to Run," "Live Wire," "Wild One," "In My Lonely Room," and "Heat Wave" together in one place, although it should be pointed out that the selection is hardly a valid snapshot of the group's singles -- amid the presence of those pounding, anthem-like fixtures of 1960s soul, the album overlooks a few of their more ballad-oriented hits, such as "I'm Ready for Love," although it does open with the gorgeous, lyrical "My Baby Loves Me" and "Come and Get These Memories," their first single to make an impact on the charts. Also missing, because of the release date of this collection, are the 1967-era hits "Jimmy Mack" and "Honey Chile." As with most Motown albums of this period, original pressings (especially in mono) have a dense, thumping sound that makes them a choice listening experience, which later LP copies and the CD reissue (out of print as of January 2001) were sorely lacking, and there are better digital audio compilations representing their work and sound, but the LP had and has its place in serious vinyl collections

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(e)           Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant).

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
