We dare say this: we firmly believe that this is one of top-10 finest urban blues albums ever recorded. If Magic Sam did not pass away so young, at the age of only 32 he could have been bigger than B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix (both of whom Magic Sam jammed with). We rank this album - Magic Sam's ONLY studio album - right up there with Albert King's "Born under the bad sign" (see our other auctions for the copy of this album); Freddy King's "Sings the Blues" album, BB King's "Live at the Regal", Muddy Waters' "Folk Singer", T-Bone Walker's "Classic indigo vocals & guitar", Lonnie Johnson's "Blues and Ballads", "Howlin' Wolf's "Moanin' in the moonlight", Jimmy Reed's "Rockin' with Reed", Lightnin' Hopkins' "Lightnin' and the Blues", Elmore James "The sun is crying" or John Lee Hooker's "Sings and Plays the Blues". As Magic Sam's mystique and cult followership grew in the years following his sudden death in 1969, the original copies of this killer record became increasingly difficult to find, particularly in good shape, such as the copy we have a privilege of presenting here. If you are not familiar with this album, you are not familiar with the modern, urban Chicago blues, and your blues education is utterly incomplete.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE SIDE 1 THE VINYL AS VERY GOOD+ . CAUTION: The vinyl on this side is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although one of them extends almost along the entire side and is somewhat visually distracting (nothing significant)
(b) WE GRADE SIDE 2 OF THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those sides that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting. For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.
(c) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
(e) Mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has some JUST A HINT of ring wear (more pronounced on the back side)
- Back cover has some MINOR dirt- and dust-covered sections, probably from friction or from rubbing against the other record covers (these spots are similar to a common ring wear, but are different in one important way: while the ring wear is an irreversible damage that cannot be repaired, some of these rubbing marks may actually be possible to clean up with a minor effort)
- Back cover has some tiny, light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity.
- Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams
- No peel-off marks
- No stains
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
