Originally released in 1997 as the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut Burn My Eyes, the often overlooked sophomore effort from Oakland groove metal legends Machine Head is a masterclass in musical aggression. The More Things Change would mark the band's the first time working with longtime drummer Dave McClain while also being their final effort to feature original guitarist Logan Mader, who here plays at fret-mangling speed metal pace, interlocking machine gun rhythms with vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn throughout. Notable for the essential groove-thrash monster singles 'Ten Ton Hammer' and 'Take My Scars', as well as the deep cut highlight from where the album gets its title - 'Struck A Nerve', this is peak Machine Head before all of the ill-advised forays into nu-metal they would later redeem themselves from. At nearly three decades on, it remains a singular, ferocious vision of mid-90s groove metal.
