Among fun percussive albums out there, almost every audiophile I know adores two:
The Dick Schory Rca production BANG BA-ROOOM AND HARP and HiFi Record's great album TABOO.
TABOO captures a small ensemble in a very large hall and displays it before you in a fashion that can only be called "real." Which is to say, the hair on your neck and arms will stand at the sounds you hear, for Arthur Lyman is surely a percussion wunderkind and here conjures up all sorts of sonic pictures, some named RINGO OIWAKE (Hawaiian), TABOO, KALUA, SIM SIM, CARAVAN, and DAHIL SAYO, among others.
It's a trip, I tell you, the LP cut with the heads wide open, from 16Hz to out past 20,000Hz. A rare treat, in a jacket without fault, just a small tear on front. Hi-Fi record within should play near mint.
A strange but infectious record, from one of the early HiFi pioneers of natural, acoustic, analog recording.
