Description
Heat alert! Whoop whoop! Unknown platter that I've cherished so dearly and have to let out into the wild to support myself! Was once offered $100 and declined because I and you for that matter will never see this one again. If the cover-art is any indication this record is a seriously funky anomaly. The album from Puerto Rico is a mix of traditional latin material, fuzzed out latin-soul cuts, and tough as nails beat/funk anthems. To describe it a little more accurately, think Los Angeles Negroes meets a spanish speaking Julie Driscoll. "Love Story" sounds right out of an unreleased Dusty Fingers comp (moody beats with emphasis on the drums of darkness), same goes for "Interrogacion". Breaks and blaring horns on "Tu" (a James Bond tune with belting vocals). "En Mi Viejo San Juan" is an Anti-Pop Consortium album in the making; "Amorcito" a nice traditional piece with one of those "where'd that come from?" boom-bap drum breaks after the 16 bar intro and repeats later in the cut (truly thugged beats!); & the all-star cut "Quiero Irme Lejos" a very uptempo b-boy cut replete with numeorus breaks, super heavy bass lines, pulsing horns and organ and a fuzzed out mentality sure to get the Boriqua face-melter club juiced! Do the do, phantom heat from San Juan!
Original Puerto Rican Pressing: Marlec Records
Cover/Record Condition: EX++/EX++ (still in shrink and oh so rare)
