Description
This is the original deep groove RVG-stamped “P”-pressing of Louis Smith “Smithville” on the West 63rd labels of Blue Note BLP 1594. Side 2 opens with a small needle drop that produces two, then four, and finally two more light tics; other than two inaudible scuffs on Side 1, the rest of the playing surface is in beautiful condition, with a high luster; perhaps played once; “Review Copy” stamped on the Side 1 label. The laminated West 63rd St. cover has issues: the spine (no splits) has superficial cracks and 1 ¼” lamination loss at the bottom; the bottom seam is worn, but not split; the top seam has a few small lamination cracks, but no splits; the back slick is worn, with varying degrees of ¼” to ¾” paper loss on the right edge, tape stains at the corners, age toning and shelf wear; “Review Copy” stamped at the top right corner. Personnel include Charlie Rouse, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, and Art Taylor. $400.00.
