Description
Offered for sale are a pair of stereo studio master tapes created for the purpose of manufacturing the 'Strategy' album, by Level 42 – which only made it to the test pressing stage. They were originally the private property of the late Andy Sojka, founder of Elite Records, who signed the band to the label in 1980 on a 6 month contract. The recordings were made during this period, but Sojka didn't get around to mixing and mastering all of them until 1982, by which time the band had signed to Polydor.
I bought the tapes in 2016 from a collector to whom Sojka sold them in 1995. The music itself was commercially released by Polydor Records in 1982 as 'The Early Tapes'.
For clarity, these tapes are not the master tapes used (and owned) by Polydor in the manufacture of 'The Early Tapes'. They are the tapes that belonged to Sojka, that he prepared with a view to releasing 'Strategy' on the Elite label.
