MINT (M) Absolutely perfect (which, to me, is impossible)
NEAR MINT (NM OR M-)
Shiny vinyl, with no visible defects; covers are free of creases, ring wear, and seam splits.; no “surface” noise (popping, crackling, white noise, etc.)
VERY GOOD (VG) (Excellent, Very Good Plus or minus): slight signs of wear, including light marks that do not affect the listening experience; no more than the slightest warps, and if there are any, they do not affect the sound; minor signs of handling; ring wear or discoloration of the cover is barely, if at all, noticeable; cover may show some minor wear; Inner sleeve may not be original or is not in great shape
GOOD (G) (Good plus or minus): groove wear may be evident on sight; up to a few light scratches and scuff marks; some surface noise, scratches, or defects may be audible, especially in soft passages and beginning and fade out areas of songs, but does not overpower the music; minor writing, tape, or a sticker (price tag) on cover; covers may have several signs of handling; ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover Some creases might be visible; serious seam splitting on cover (or inner sleeve if it has significant artwork) can be offset by sound quality.
FAIR OR POOR: A rare or collector’s item with damage that would make a regular item not worth anything but maybe sentimental value.
* This is just how I personally evaluate the records I am auctioning off, but there are really detailed descriptions referenced by many sellers on Goldmine Magazine website. I do not claim to be an expert--just somebody who loves unusual music on vinyl, temporarily selling some on e-bay.
