I am selling my personal collection of vinyl records that I have built up over the last 50 years. Most are in excellent condition and all have been stored upright with protective plastic sleeves. They have been played on quality turntables with very light arms and good needles so the audio quality for most remains excellent. Any defects that I am aware of are noted with the listing. The collection has mostly sat idle for the last 30 – 40 years because my children grew up with different music tastes (from Bananas in Pyjamas through to the rubbish spat out in the 1990’s and beyond) and different technologies. My grandchildren seem even less interested in this classic technology so it all has to go!

My assessment of the condition of the albums and covers is as follows.

MINT: 

Vinyl: The record is in perfect condition without any defects or flaws and has never been played.

Cover: Packaging is complete, unmarked and unopened. Extras that come with the album are all present and in original condition.

NEAR MINT:

Vinyl: The record and packing are in nearly perfect condition. The record may have been played but the record grooves will appear to be in perfect condition without any scuff marks or surface scratches. Sound quality will be perfect.

Cover: Packing may show minor scuff marks but no other defects.

EXCELLENT:

Vinyl: The record will show slight signs of use. There may be some light scuff marks on the record groves but no noticeable deterioration to the sound quality.

Cover: The Sleeve will be clean and clear but may show minimal wear such as light surface scuff marks, very small creases and minimal evidence of the record having been removed and inserted into the sleeve. Record covers that have a name written on them will never be rated as ‘Excellent’ even if other criteria are met.

VERY GOOD:

Vinyl: The record will have good lustre but will show signs of use including surface scuff marks and minimal light scratches but there will be no significant deterioration of sound quality. There will be no audible clicks.

Cover: The cover will be clean and clear but may have light scuff marks on the front and back, some minor scuffing on the edges and corners, some light creases or a light impression of the album inside. Record covers with owners names written on them may still be rated as very good if other very good or above criteria are met.

GOOD:

Vinyl: The record will have been well played and show significant signs of use. The vinyl may have lost its lustre, have significant scuff marks and possibly some scratches. Good records will play without skipping but there will be noticeable deterioration of sound quality and possibly some clicks from scratches.

Cover: Packaging will be intact and complete but appear dull and show noticeable signs of wear including dents and creases.

FAIR:

Vinyl: The record will show significant signs of use and mishandling. The vinyl will have lost its lustre and have significant scuff marks and scratches. Sound quality will be poor with noise and clicks and may jump on one track.

Cover: Packaging may be and complete but appear dull and show easily noticeable signs of wear including dents, splitting, bends and significant creases.

POOR:

Vinyl: The record will show significant signs of wear and tear and may be warped or damaged. Sound quality will be significantly affected and scratches may make the record unplayable.

Cover: Packaging may be torn, stained or mouldy and have significant wear making cover details hard or impossible to read.
