Description


 An original 1st issue of ZEPIII on UK Atlantic from whilst charting. matrix A5/B7. I would estimate this pressing dates from the run up to Xmas 1970. Not from the 1st big order at 1st release, but soon after. The other hint of quite an early copy is that it has the 'Celebration' error on the label, and omits the word 'Day'. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original E J Day DELUXE gatefold cover. Please note spinning wheel is fully operational.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) Well preserved and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side, two superficial trail marks  - nothing heavy or nasty. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation per side. Nice quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with really good clarity. Some super audio hard coded into these grooves - hard not to get excited when listening to a great copy of my favourite Zep LP. By and large a pretty clean player - but not exclusively. Friends plays pretty well - above average, but I did detect the odd static crackle and a couple of isolated ticks. A couple of minor ticks and a few static crackles in the super fussy run into SIBLY. This track still plays very well and is by far the fussiest on the entire album. A couple of crackles at the outset of Gallows a couple of ticks moments later...then it goes clean. And WOW what a track - this rendition is totally acing it. If you want a demonstration of just how good Zep were - this would be an excellent place to start. Mind blowing...There is a mark in TANGERINE which does sound. I get 5-6 ticks in the acoustic intro and a couple of more in a quieter passage moments later. So, this track is nearer Vg+ and the ONLY vaguely subpar track. And even then - it still plays great. Rest of Side 2 is total knock-out....love it! By and large a cracking copy with only minor issue briefly in a couple of spots.
Cover (Vg+) In great condition and looking better than many deluxe originals. Might have graded slightly higher but for some writing indentation on the rear when you tilt into the light..e.g. owners name and marking out Jimmy Page [see JPJ chin in photo!] Some light ageing creeping in at extremities, but surfaces are looking pretty neat. Nice to see the rear isn't affected by the common problem of laminate rippling....Interior looks really with just slight discolouration on the left side [no biggy]. Not too much edge wear and the spine is 90% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
