Description

This is the first pressing of Led Zeppelin II with the Robert Ludwig Sterling Sound mastering. The mastering was very pronounced and the bass made some phono cartridge needles skip. Some people thought the records were defective and they were returned to stores. These pressings are sometimes referred to as the RL Hot Mix but the mix is from the recording console. The mastering enhances the overall tone and volume. The RL mastering produced a very dynamic pressing. Ahmet Ertegen, president of Atlantic Records at the time decided to stop production on the RLs and a more conventional mastering was produced.
