Led Zeppelin 3 Red/Plum label U.K.1st press label error.

Here we have for auction the above-mentioned item.

This classic album was released in 1970 and is catalogue number 2401-002. This particular version is a first-press and has the red/plum coloured label. The run-off groove is hand-engraved as follows :-

On side 1. 2401002 A5 Do what thou wilt.

On side 2 2401002 B7 So mote it be.

Printed on the label on side 1. Track 3 (Celebration Day) is mis-printed as Celebration.

The laminated gate-fold cover is printed by ‘the E.J. Day Group’ and has the track listing and credits on the right-hand side of the cover (inside). The front of the cover has a rotating wheel inside, and has some cut-out round windows whereupon when you spin the wheel, different pictures appear in the windows. Also printed in the bottom right-hand corner of the front cover is ‘Atlantic Deluxe’ in light blue text.

Condition :-

Cover :-

I would say the cover is an excellent -. The rotating wheel works perfectly. There is some slight discolouration, and there are a couple of scuff-marks around the edges. There are some marks on the front, but these can only be seen in a certain light and do not break the surface.

Inner Sleeve :-

I would say this is very good. This has a couple of creases on the bottom corners, from when it was a little difficult getting it into the cover. There is also a tear (about 1cm long) in the cut-out window where it joins the cellophane.

Vinyl :-

I think this lp warrants an excellent -. Obviously with an album of this stature it has been played a few times. If you look at the album under normal lighting conditions, it is possible to see some light scratches. However, these do not manifest themselves as noise. On ‘Since I’ve been loving you’ (Side 1, track 4) after the first few notes on the guitar, there are about four clicks. Other than that there is the odd static click or pop, but nothing that would mar your enjoyment of this superb album. Probably with a really good clean these would disappear anyway.

I would just like to stress that I am not a record collector as such. This is just an album I have had for a long time and am now looking to rid myself of all the vinyl I have around the house ! I think if anything, I have perhaps been a bit too hard on myself regarding the condition of this album. However, I don't want to disappoint anybody, so have tried as near as possible to follow the condition guidelines as set by 'Record Collector' magazine as set out below.

 Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Near Mint (NM) The record looks brand new with no scuffing or any deterioration in sound quality and only the smallest hint that its ever been played. The cover and any additional extras are clean, crisp and with no wear whatsoever.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
