THE RECORD - EXCELLENT

A lovely piece of thick glossy vinyl. 

Great  sheen, this vinyl has no serious marks or wear, with crisp clear unworn grooves. This great example does have a few light hairlines, and a couple of small light scratches, but they are very light and have little effect on the audio. On the whole its a lovely piece!

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - EXCELLENT sound quality throughout!

This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. Strong, undistorted sound free of any loud pops or clicks.  The record plays with staggering power, with an absolute minimum of surface sound during the tracks.

I will give a detailed sound check to let you know the quality of the great collectors vinyl. 

At the start of side 1. there is some light background noise on the run in grooves. It then bursts into 'Immigrant Song' with great power and clarity.  There is some background static between tracks and in quieter parts, but played on my system it is in no way prominent. 

'Since I've Been Loving You' has great, clear, vibrant sound. I noticed a couple of light pops but they were hardly detectable at low and high volume. Again with 'Gallows Pole', some light background static at the start, but then moving into very clear vibrant sound. The mandolin sings out as does the banjo, which comes in with great towards the end. The quieter tracks of 'Tangerine' and 'Thats the way' sound fantastic, lovely rich quality.

This is a pleasure to listen to, a lovely copy of Zep 3 I have heard. There is some light background sound but the music has a clarity that is unusual for these vinyls.

A great all round example of this great First Press Zeppelin vinyl!

THE COVER – EXCELLENT

This is a great example of the classic Zep 3 album cover. An original first UK press cover, with prefect working wheel, sitting snugly on its spindle. The front of the gatefold being open at top and bottom, as only the first UK press covers are meant to. All later covers came in a more standardised gatefold format.

The opening edge is very square and un frayed. The inside Gatefold is clean and virtually unmarked. The Spine shows minimal wear only, the spine text is totally intact, and is one of the squarest examples I have seen. A great solid example. All round, this is a really nice cover!!! As with all pressings of Zep 3, there is some yellowing around the edges, and a laminate crease on the back top side edge, but these are slight. There are NONE of the usual laminate creases across rear gatefold.

All round, this is a really great example with little to fault it.

THE LABELS - EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION

A lovely set of labels with hardly any spindle traces at all. The 1960's red & maroon colours of the Atlantic label are only original pressings, they were re-designed to orange and green colours in late 1971.

All first issues of "Led Zeppelin 3" have two cryptic messages inscribed in the run-out grooves. (The shiny non-music part between the last track and the label!) Side1 has "Do What Thou Wilt" and Side 2 has "So Mote It Be", the Crowley text relates to Jimmy Page and his interest in magic and mysticism. Page is reportedly one of the biggest collectors of Crowley artefacts.

The motto comes exclusively on the first pressing's, adding an air of the mystical to the album.

Comes with Original 1st Press UK "British Patent", MADE IN ENGLAND Ploy Lined Inner sleeve, in EXCELLENT CONDITION.

RARITY

It is getting harder and harder to find good examples of early PLUM pressings of Zep 3, and very hard if not almost impossible to find ones in this condition. More than that, this is an Extremely Rare 1st UK pressing, with the correct Ist Press cover, all in EXCELLENT condition.

A plum LZ III in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any Plum examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays great, is very rare. What is certain, any plum copy will blow away the orange and green pressings that followed from 1971. The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is one is a stunner. Finding a great cover like this, with a lovely piece of vinyl makes this a true and very rare collectable. fantastic!.

VINYL SOUND - Please Note: 

Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

MY RECORD GRADING SYSTEM IS AS FOLLOWS - (IN LINE WITH THE RECORD COLLECTORS MAGAZINE U.K. )

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.

FAIR: Fair. It is noticeable that the record has been played so much that the sound quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The cover and contents are showing signs of folding, scuffing of edges etc.
