'Following the staggering reunion triumph at the O2, which I was lucky enough to be at, with interest in Led Zeppelin greater than ever, with the site for the Ahmettribute.com tribute concert receiving an unbelievable 120 million hits, with 25 million people apparently registering for a Zeppelin ticket, its as good a time as any to invest in an original copy early press of this classic Zep album.'
This is an exceptional pressing in very clean condition, that plays great from start to finish. You will be very hard pressed to find a PLUM copy that still plays with such power!
Led Zeppelin was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London and released on Atlantic Records on 12 January 1969. The album featured integral contributions from each of the group's four musicians and established Led Zeppelin's fusion of blues and rock. Led Zeppelin also created a large and devoted following for the band, with their unique heavy sound endearing them to a section of the counterculture on both sides of the Atlantic.
Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos.
As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the extended psychedelic blues of "Dazed and Confused," "You Shook Me," and "I Can't Quit You Baby" often gather the most attention, the remainder of the album is a better indication of what would come later.
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" shifts from folky verses to pummelling choruses; "Good Times Bad Times" and "How Many More Times" have groovy, bluesy shuffles; "Your Time Is Gonna Come" is an anthemic hard rocker; "Black Mountain Side" is pure English folk; and "Communication Breakdown" is a frenzied rocker with a nearly punkish attack. The album brought the band exploding into the public consciousness, and marked a significant turning point in the evolution of contemporary music.
ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:
Yes – brilliant sound quality throughout!
This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. It plays with Incredibly Powerful and clear sound, with no groove wear or blurring of the sound separation; incredibly rare on an original early Plum pressing!
Strong, undistorted sound free of any loud pops or clicks. Channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with a minimum of surface sound during the tracks.
Great audio with minimal interference to distract form the overly enjoyment of this great record, and only light surface or static noise between the tracks. I will give a detailed account below:
Beginning with the iconic 'Good Times Bad Times', the music bursts in with crystal clear audio, no pops or clicks and nice clean run ins. Moving into the wonderful 'Babe I'm gonna Leave You', which demonstrates Zeppelin's incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity. For such a quiet track this is just an awesome audio performance. No pops or clicks and virtually no background static at all. Incredible.
'You Shook Me' bursts out with very little static in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. Still no loud pops or clicks during the music, and not a hint of distortion. In fact I may as well confirm now that there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great vinyl. 'Dazed and Confused' plays with crystal clear sound, and the instrumental section, heavily layered again, sounds great. The long bass intro is so clear and sharp, not a hint of surface sound. Superb clear bright sound, amazing.
Side 2. smoothes in with the incredible 'Your Time Is Gonna Come', following nice clean run ins, the sound is great. Some very light occasional static and a couple of very light pops in the middle, but these are not in any way obtrusive. The delicate 'Black Mountain Side' sounds incredible. No pops or clicks and virtually no surface sound at all. Amazing for such a paired dow track. Back with the upbeat almost punky 'Communication Breakdown', the audio is just superb, with minimal static and clear vocal layering. No obvious sound interference at all. 'I cant Quit You Babe' alternates between the delicate and rockous, this track can be a real test on this album, and here it sings out, with great clarity and an amazing lack of surface sound. This variable track is nearly always blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. The occasional light static tic only, and stunning clear audio. 'How many More Times', rounds off the album, again to the same high audio standard. Superb clear sound.
All the way through every track plays with incredible definition. A total lack of loud pops, clicks, interference, and certainly no distortion anywhere on this great record, makes this a truly incredible collectable press of this great album. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars multi layers come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.
This great record plays with no loud pops or clicks, and absolutely No repeating noises or Sticks.
A great all round example of this great vinyl. Graded EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT.
A staggering first stereo mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact.
THE LABELS - NEAR MINT
Both labels are in great condition and carry the Warner Brothers / Jewel Music Publishing credit. Famous PLUM labels are Superb, with no marks or writing, and no discernible spindle wear. Only a few ultra light spindle traces can be found, and they are very light!
Great all round deep coloured examples, wonderful!
THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING
A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl has been little played. On initial inspection the vinyl looks largely unmarked. Seen under a spot light it does have some faint sleeve removal marks, but the are light and have no effect on the sound.
There are a few very faint handling marks, this vinyl has been played carefully. Unbelievable to think this vinyl is over 40 years old!
A really wonderful example. Easily grade EXCELLENT PLUS .
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:
Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVER
This is a very nice cover too. These thin card covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one!
There is minimal scuffing to the corners, and no rubbing along the edges. The opening edges are very square and totally un frayed. The white areas are very white, with minimal blemishes and just a couple of creases on the back. The back cover is nice and clean, with virtually no ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers.
There is some light creasing and a few indentations , but nothing very serious. There are a couple of small scuffs on the rear above John's head, about 3 mm long, but in my opinion it is not very obvious. The Spine is an unusually square example, with some light wear only, with the spine text is intact.
A great solid example. All round, this is a really nice original cover. Grades at EXCELLENT condition!!!
THE INNER
An EXCELLENT PLUS condition, original white inner. NO small tears around the die cut opening, NO splits to the seams, and NO wear at the tops. Crisp and Clean, with no splits, and no writing. A great example.
RARITY
A PLUM PRESSING of ZEP 1. in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any EARLY UK PRESS examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays with TOP AUDIO is very rare.
The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is one of the better examples. Finding a nice cover like this, with a stunning piece of vinyl, fantastic!.
PLUM pressings are infinitely more rare than the later orange and green labels, but finding pressings that sound great is a real challenge. A PLUM press with the 1st ever corrected A1 B 1 Matrix version is very rare indeed.
THIS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY, WITH A WONDERFUL RICH SOUND THAT IS NOW GETTING SERIOUSLY HARD TO FIND.
GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.
GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!
SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:
This record has been play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are buying. I will not go into screeds of information about the nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.
.
VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:
The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.
VINYL
Large format art work covers with the original sound and mix unique to vinyl and of the highest quality audio. Vinyl record have always been loved and have become a great investment opportunity, with prices soaring over the last ten years, making classic pieces a great financial as well as a cultural investment.
