This record has been in my collection, which I have now decided to sell, for some 40 years. I have no experience in judging the quality of vinyl recordings, but have done a fair bit of research into the grading criteria and will apply this to the best of my knowledge and as honestly as possible.

This is the rare 1969 first pressing of Led Zeppelin 1 with the turquoise sleeve and “superhype” publishing credit. It has the red/maroon Atlantic record label and hand corrected matrix 588171 A//1 – B//1.

I would rate the condition of the LP as VG, there are some light surface marks, but nothing significant. I bought this record from a friend in 1973 and unfortunately he had written his name on both labels (see photo), apart from this both labels are clean with just a couple of light scratches on label side 2. The spindle holes show very little wear. The album was played a lot in its early days, so has the signs of wear you would expect. The tracks “Dazed and Confused” and “Your Time Is Gonna Come” have a few clicks at the start but nothing too serious. All-in–all it plays really well, the dynamics are good and there are no skips or jumps.

The inner sleeve with poly liner is in good clean condition, but the outer sleeve is at best mediocre, I would rate it as a very optimistic G. It has plenty of creases has obviously been handled a lot, with wear on all the edges and various scuffs along the spine and edges. It is clean but rather tired looking.

I have entered a low starting price, because the criteria for grading vinyl is somewhat vague and imprecise, making it difficult to accurately assess it’s quality and I want to be fair and realistic.
