Description
Lady Warrender was an extremely important figure in the world of early 20th century music. A founding member of the Musicians Benelovent Fund and supporter of many, particularly women, musicians she was herself a fine contralto and gave many concerts in Britain, Europe and India. The internet tells us much of this woman who, sadly, is little known today. Detail of her recordings is not so forthcoming. The example on offer was recorded in Calcutta and is presumably rare.
The surface of the record looks very good. There is a wee bit of a noise at the start, there is blasting on 1 note and some swishing that a good clean might help. The fine voice of Lady Warrender perfectly matches this haunting song.
