Description

Original 1971 U.S. pressing of La Protesta on Rico Records (RLP 701), a standout Latin LP blending salsa dura, bolero, and Afro-Caribbean guaguancó. Fronted by Jose Mangual Jr. and Nestor Sanchez on vocals, with arrangements by Tony Pabón and Ken Gomez, this record captures the socially charged energy of New York's early '70s Nuyorican movement.

This is a deep, rootsy, and funky political salsa LP that rarely turns up in clean condition. From the fiery descarga of Meneala to the soulful groove of Yo Te Comprendo, this album delivers both power and poetic protest. No stereo marking on the sleeve, but "Stereo" appears in the runout.

Essential for collectors of early '70s Latin jazz, salsa brava, and rare groove Latin vinyl.
